Ubuntu 10.04 network problem

I downloaded desktop version of Ubuntu 10.04 and installed to my desktop. I could not connect to wired internet. I set up the TCP/IP from edit connection in the tab ‘IPV4’. Still could not connect to wired network.
Finally the wired network in Ubuntu 10.04 worked when I went to edit connection -> wired connections -> IPV6 and changed the setting in ‘Method’ to ‘Ignore’.
Now I am surfing the net from Ubuntu 10.04 using wired network.
